Spartan Family,
We need your help to keep our children safe! Please share and spread the word. This school year, with the help of local law enforcement, we have issued multiple tickets weekly for school bus stop arm violations. While we see these violations throughout the county, many have come from wider roads within Connersville city limits such as Park Road. Although this and other roads may have multiple lanes, they still require vehicles to stop in both directions.
In Indiana, it's illegal for drivers to pass a stopped school bus that has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended. This applies to all roads except for motorists on a highway that is divided by a barrier, such as a concrete wall or grassy median. Here in Fayette County, this includes virtually ALL of our roadways.
In short, if you see flashing yellow lights, prepare to stop.
If you see flashing red lights, stop in both directions.
Fayette County School Corporation buses are equipped with stop arm cameras. Those who illegally pass a stopped school bus will be held accountable. Violators could pay a fine of up to $10,000 or have their license suspended for up to 90 days for the first offense or up to a year for the second. This is never what we want to happen, but we are willing to take every possible step to keep our children safe.
We thank you for your continued help and support as we strive to protect our most precious assets...our children.
Mr. Jeremy Duncan
Superintendent, Fayette County School Corporation
